I've uploaded a picture of the results. After the 3rd round the reflecting glass fractured in the upper and lower right. My experience with the seller has been very positive so far, so I don't hold them responsible. We'll see how they resolve this. But this is definitely not ready for shotgun use like the manufacturer would have you believe.

I wound up having it replaced twice: Once for the cracked lens, the other because the elevation screw stripped out. I had had to wind it all the way down snug and after about 20 shots it stripped.

The _third_ one seems to be the charm. Took it out and it was again printing high. However this time I shimmed the front of the sight. Not _ideal_ but sometimes you have to do things like that. Got it zeroed and ran close to 100 rounds through it. Worked great! Oh, one other thing. When I first started changing the windage, it didn't seem to be moving much. First, I must say, this product is easy to use, very compact, intimidating, and VERY easy to install. With that said, I have not taken it to the range yet so I do not know how the zero holds up. Now, my only disappointment (not fulfulling my biggest excitement about the product) is that it is advertised that you can choose between a red or green reticle. This was a GIANT selling factor for me because the surefire light I have mounted on the front, has a Red lense filter for Tactical Indoor Room Clearing. The red lense gives me the light I need but does not give off my position to the next room (if shots aren't fired of course) and in dark scenarios you need to keep the reticle on a lower setting for your eye sight adjustment. So as you can understand, a lower setting RED reticle following behind a RED filtered flashlight is kinda hard to see... :( The only option i have now, is to buy a blue lense filter and those are ALOT harder to find! Sony has finally come a full circle, by starting the digital camera, withdrawing from the initial SLR plans and now firmly back. Their first SLR is from the bones of a 20 year MAXXUM/DYNAX line from Konica Minolta. This is the initial camera in the Alpha line called the DSLR-A100, a 10.2 megapixel, three frame per second SLR mostly based on the Konica Minolta MAXXUM 5D. This Sony is between the Canon Rebel 400xti and the Nikon D200 and it compares very favorably to the Nikon D80 although the D80 takes better photos but has no built-in anti-Shake.

Overall I think the Sony is better than the new Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi. It is an amazingingly good value for your money and might suit your needs perfectly. BUT NONE HAVE BUILT IN ANTI-SHAKE. Only Pentax has the new K100D (which has anti-shake but lower 6MP resolution). All in all the Sony A100 is a winner and would get 5 stars if they fixed the noise issues.

[Here's a reprint of the review I first wrote for the Camera + lens kit. Since that time, there have been some other, more scientific reviews, most notably, the one done on Digital Photography Review.

They had some additional positives, most notably the highest CF card throughput they've yet tested (even against top-of-the-line pro models). The biggest con listed was high noise at 800, and particularly at 1600. This might be a problem with anyone who's buying this camera primarily for low-light photography.

In conclusion, they gave this camera a "highly recommended" review, their highest mark.]

The reviews below this one are thorough and written by professional-sounding photographers. So I'm going to give you my brief impression as an amateur. I have had this camera for 2 months now and use it regularly (several times a week). I am a flatwater kayaker and I use it mostly to take pictures of wildlife--shorebirds, deer, other critters--from the kayak. I purchased the 75-300 zoom lens to go with it. I also have the lens that comes with the kit, which I use for scenics or pictures around the house, etc. My previous cameras included the Sony DSC-H5 and the Canon S2 IS, both with teleconversion lenses.

Obviously, this being a DSLR camera, the pictures are crisper with better color. The image stabilization is effective enough to give me sharp pictures of birds taken from a kayak on moving water. While the 10 mp factor is usually (I gather) desirable from a printing standpoint, I find that it is helpful from a cropping standpoint. The zoom lens will only take me so... Read more

Bought this from amazon about a month ago and it works awesome. I use mine on a kayak so I need to use a portable model. The suction cup is awesome, don't worry about it falling off. I have to slide a knife under it to un-stick it from my boat.

The battery it comes with is like a small car battery, and initially turned me off to the product, this being the days of lithium-ion technology and all. I quickly warmed to it, however, as it recharges well and lasts forever. I went on a four hour fishing trip, left it uncharged, then took it out again for another four hours without coming close to losing power.

The dual beam was a big selling point for me when I bought it, but honestly it seldom spots any more fish (fish picked up by the second beam are displayed as white rather than black). I wouldn't let this feature keep you from buying a single beam product.

I've had the opportunity to use both the wired transducer attached via suction cup and the wireless remote sonar sensor. First I'd like to make it clear that the RF45 RSS is included. Some of the product information I read seemed to indicate that it was not included, but that was wrong.

I bought this because several times a year I go to a local lake and rent a boat to fish for trout and Kokanee salmon, the rest of the time I spend fishing I fish from the shore. During a recent trip when I rented a boat I used the wired transducer. The boat I was on was a large pontoon boat and the only place to attach the transducer was to the back of one of the pontoons. The surface was rounded and had algae all over it. I got the transducer on but after a short time with the 50hp motor at full power the transducer fell off. The Humminbird PiranhaMax 230 Portable Fish Finder works and operates perfectly. The state I fish in gets very cold and snows most of the time. The Humminbird PiranhaMax worked thru it all. The alarm is loud enough for my bad hearing. It is very compact so that helps with taking everything a person needs for fishing, I would advise anyone ice fishing to buy this product as I have used it in adverse conditions and it never failed me.
